Andrew^7 H. Van Wicklen (Daniel^6, John^5. Jacob^4, Garret^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes) was b. 1 January1839, Jericho, NY. He first married Margaret LaRue and his second m. was to Rosa ____. He died 16 January 1881 (1850 US Census for Oyster Bay, Queens, NY lists Andrew Van Wicklen, 11, residing in household of Catharine Hoagland (script of surname difficult to determine... looks like Krugland, Kruglana, Hugland, Huglana, etc. but index lists her as Catherine Hoagland), age 56, Catherine Hoagland, 26, William Hoagland, 23, James Hoagland, 21. Adjacent to this family is the household of Elizabeth Van Wicklen, widow, age 68 who has son Peter, 40, and his family residing with her. See Harry Macy note below.)

Children: Hattie^8 Van Wicklen, b. abt 1864; Frank^8 Van Wicklen, b. abt 1866. Appears to have died mid-July, 1888 (see Brooklyn Eagle info in source section below); Mina^8 Van Wicklen, b. 29 December 1870 and d. 6 November 1951. She married Dubois Tuttle (b. 28 December 1871, Eastport, NY and d. 23 November 1961.

1863 Andrew H. Van Wicklin vegetables, 217 Court St.

1870 US Census for Brooklyn, Ward 6, Kings, NY lists Andrew Van Wicklen, 31, Clerk in store with wife, Margt, 32, keeps house, and dau. Hattie, 6 and son, Frank, 4. Also, Andrew's mother, Hanna, 51, at home, and the following brothers and sisters of Andrew: Catherine, 21, dress maker, Margaretta, 18, attends store, Daniel, 20, milk route, and Emma, 14. (As noted above, Daniel^6, Andrew's father, drowns while clamming in Oyster Bay in 1861.)

1880 US Census for Brooklyn, Kings, NY lists Andrew Van Wicklen, 41, shoe dealer, b. NY (both parents b. NY) with wife, Rosa, 40, keeping house, b. NY (both parents b. NY) and children, Hattie, 16, Frank, 14, and Minnie, 9... all children listed "at school."

Brooklyn Eagle, 17 July 1888, page 3 - Frank G. Van Wicklen, funeral on Wednesday, July 18, 2 O'Clock at Welcome P.M. Church, Classon Ave, near Park. Members of Court Lexington 7,207 A.O.F. are hereby notified to assemble at Court Chamber, Park and Tompkins Ave, at 1 O'clock on Wednesday, July 18,1888 for the purpose of attending the funeral of our late brother, F. G. Van Wicklen. Funeral from his late residence, 152 Classon Av. on Wednesday at 2 O'clock. Sister courts invited to attend. Otto Thogode, C. R.

(From the VW strays page): Minnie Van Wicklen (based on email from Gary Skarka 26 June 2000) Minnie Van Wicklen, b. 29 December 1870, d. 6 November 1951 and m. Dubois Tuttle. Gary says "Unfortunately, I do not have any further information on Minnie. She was married to my Great Grandmother's brother, Dubois Tuttle. Being as Dubois is my Great Great Uncle and not in my direct line, I did not research Minnie any further. I do know that they lived in Eastport, Long Island, Suffolk County, NY." (Michael Wolfe in 6 July 2000 email adds... "Dubois Tuttle is the son of David Halsey Tuttle and Martha (Mattie) M. Tuttle.) 

1920 US Census for Manhatten, NY ED#810 lists George C. V____?, head, 56, b. PA, lawyer with wife Harriet, 55, b. NY (both parents b. NY) and Wilhemina N. Tuttle, sister-in-law, 49, widow, b. NY (both parents b. NY). This is most likely sisters, Hattie and Mina, the daughters of Andrew H. Van Wicklen. The birth years are the same, and we know that Minnie Van Wicklen married Dubois Tuttle.
